As part of their first outing as a group, PL Risk Helping Hands recently visited CUMAC Echo, in Paterson, New Jersey.
PL Risk Advisors, Inc. employees helped sort food and box them for CUMAC clients. In addition, they helped load clothing donations to be distributed throughout Northern New Jersey. It was a fun and engaging experience for all involved granting them a new perspective on those less fortunate than them.
Christine DeFelice, the head of PL Risk’s charity committee was proud to work with them for the day. “The knowledge that what we were doing was going to have a profound direct impact for the individuals/families that we were packing food for gives oneself such an emotional sense of being that its almost overwhelming.”
Rose Bates, the director of community management, was thankful for the support from PL Risk Helping Hands. “Volunteer support is critical to CUMAC's mission of feeding people and changing lives. We see thousands of food insecure people in our pantry every month and without volunteers to organize, pack and distribute the groceries, CUMAC staff would not be able to meet the need. Thank you to PL Risk volunteers for their energy, dedication and for being ready to make a difference in people's lives. We are grateful.”
CUMAC or Center of United Methodist Aid to the Community, is a non-for-profit group that aids homeless and other poorer communities throughout Northern New Jersey. CUMAC provides much needed support to over 30,000 people in 2017 alone. CUMAC takes donations of food, clothes and money from all over Northern New Jersey and provides them with enough to get through next couple of weeks. (www.cumac.org)
Prior to this visit to CUMAC, PL Risk Advisors, Inc. employees collected food and other items and presented them to the staff for distribution. They will continue to collect food and other supplies for donation to the pantry moving forward.
